Description
The detector uses inductance measurement and has a transmitter and receiver coil, automatically balanced at start-up (“tuning”).
The transmitter creates an alternating electromagnetic field.
A metal particle passing through it changes the field and induces a voltage in the receiver. Voltage depends on the metal’s magnetic and electrical properties:
- large pieces generate more voltage than small ones, and magnetic metals such as steel generate more than non-magnetic metals such as aluminium.
- Electronics measure and analyse the voltage.
All metal types can be detected, although magnetic-metal detection is more reliable. Particles in the product or non-metallic packaging are detected without damaging or altering the goods.
